Guide To Affordable Workout Clothes

Okay, I know that not all of us can be like Taylor Swift and come from the gym still looking super cute and well put together. However, you can still look trendy even when you’re working out. Here are some suggestions for some trendy yet still super comfy clothing for you to wear when heading to the gym, out for a run, to sports practice, or whatever it might be.

These colorblock capri’s from Kohl’s aren’t my favorite color but they offer several other different colors also. These are the perfect bottoms to wear to the gym. They aren’t sweatpants but they aren’t ridiculously short either, you can still get active without get too hot and sweaty, you know what I mean?

Here’s yet another pair of pants that are colorblocked except this one is from Target. I really love the color of these leggings and think they would be awesome to workout in.

This one isn’t exactly cheap but if you’re looking for a fashionable supportive crossback sports bra, this is for you.

If you’re looking for something bound to make an impression, check this sports bra from Forever 21 out. And these VERY short shorts also from Forever 21 out. They would both go really well together.

Love these Zumiez galaxy workout pants. They are comfortable, affordable, and also cute and trendy. These are must haves for workout wears.

This Roxy’s hoodie is perfect if you’re going outside to run during the colder weather and what not. It’s an equal balance of comfortable and cute, therefore it’s perfect for wearing when working out.

What better place to shop for workout clothes then Nike? A lot of their stuff may seem a bit on the expensive side, but a lot of it is also pretty affordable and always good quality. Be sure to check out this particular sports bra and other workout gear and running shoes.

Pittsburgh Pirates Update Part 2

Okay, continuing where I left off yesterday. Today, I’m going to look at some of the best starting pitchers, relief pitchers, and closers that we have this season.

Starting Pitchers

1. Francisco Liriano

Franky is one of the best pitchers that we have. Sometimes he can be really on his game and other times he can be a little off and start to throw crazy pitches. He’s not really the type of guy who always shuts you down but he’s still crazy talented nonetheless. He’s had a lot of success here with the Pirates and I definitely expect that to continue. Hopefully, he gets even more controlled and on the ball but either way, he’s still a quality member to the team.

2. Gerrit Cole

This young pitcher was recognized by everyone when the high school prospect did well during his major league debut. The pitcher has continued to turn up the heat and to impress. The big issue with Cole is that he seems to get rattled easier than some of the other more seasoned pitchers. He’s still a young kid with a lot of growing room left. He hasn’t been sent down since he came up to the majors and I highly doubt he will again. He gets outs when he needs to and he’s kind of the same as Liriano in the respect that when he’s on, batters need to be worried. But he’s off, wild pitches can really hurt the Pirates.

3. Jeff Locke

Another starter who’s still fairly young. Locke was an all-star not long ago and after that, he kind of lost his control for awhile. But I think he’s definitely gotten it back to an extent and he’s shown more control than in the past. Like the previous pitchers mentioned, he just needs to stay composed and not let his pitch get out of control. He gives up a lot of walks which seems to be the case for the majority of the starting pitchers. He’s an all-star for a reason, this lefty is one to watch for sure.

4. A.J. Burnett

A.J. was one of the best and most reliable pitchers for this ball club before he left for Philadelphia. Burnett took Edinson Volquez’s spot in the rotation. Volquez was arguably the most consistent pitcher we had last season and he will be missed. But still, it’s nice to have A.J. back since he knows what he’s doing and we have a lot of trust in him as a pitcher. He didn’t have the best season with the Phillies but he didn’t have the worst either. We can only hope that 2013 A.J. will be back and he can finish his career on a high note here in Pittsburgh.

5. Vance Worley

This young pitcher is filling in for Charlie Morton- another one of our best, who’s currently on the DL. Charlie needs to get back to Pittsburgh but Vance isn’t the worst pitcher either. He’s no Charlie (Charlie on a good day I mean) but he still has potential and it’s nice that the ball club is giving him a chance to prove himself as the starting guy for now anyway. Hopefully he can impress us a little bit more and secure a couple of wins along the way.

Relief pitchers

Tony Watson

Sometimes it can be hard to understand why Tony Watson is in the games at certain times. For instance, if he gives up a homerun and still remains in the game, or something similar to that. Truthfully, I can remember more negative moments of Watson’s than the positive but he still is a trusted relief pitcher who typically can get us through the game and to the closers.

I don’t know many of the other relief pitchers since Justin Wilson is no longer with the Pirates and we have some new players. So I’m just going to stick to talking about only Tony and move on to the big closer spot.

Mark Melancon

It can be hard to want him in the game sometimes because he can make some costly errors to say the least. But Melancon is also pretty close to the closer that Jason Grilli was. It may not always be pretty, but he typically manages to get the outs needed and at the end of day that’s all that really matters. He has the same amount of saves as Grilli and that’s pretty impressive since there was a lot of hype behind Grilli during his time as a closer in Pittsburgh. So when he’s doing good, it’s easy to cheer for Melancon.

Why I Love The Fierce Five

When the Olympics was happening a few years ago, I was the same age as the gymnasts on USA’s team. I was blown away by the talent level of girls that are my age. Basically, the whole time the Olympics was going on, I was watching the gymnastics coverage every chance I got. Looking back on it now, I wonder what drew me to this sport that I don’t typically have much interest in.

My answer is that during this time period, I just found it suddenly fun to watch. I’ve always been interested in watching swimming during the Olympics, largely due to the attractive swimmers. But I never found the gymnasts all that relatable. These five girls were definitely girls I could relate to. For the most part, they were just normal girls, giddy to be in London. They were starstruck over some of the star athletes, and definitely over the big celebrities who tweeted about them. They all had big and awesome personalities that seemed really down to earth.

At the end of the day, I think the Fierce Five really changed my perspective on gymnasts in general. I always knew that they worked hard to get where they are, but watching them made me realize all that the girls had to give up to get on the Olympic team. Gabby had to move away from her family in order to train with a more serious and professional coach. None of the other girls had easy rides to the team either, they all had to work their way up the ladder in an extremely short amount of time.

The world of gymnastics is a competitive and cruel one. It’s really a sport that takes a toll on your body and wears you down. Why else would only those between the ages of 16-19 (sometimes about 20) be able to compete? Now I’m just rambling, but my point is, these girls really showed my generation that we can all make something of ourselves. Your age isn’t something that defines you, you’re never too young to do anything so go after your dreams no matter what!

Spring Into Fashion!

March gives us some serious hope that Spring is just around the corner. While we’ve had glimpses of Spring this winter, it’s always gone back to the bitter cold at the end of the day. But there’s definitely some hope that Spring is lurking in the shadows waiting to come out. So here are some looks inspired by the warmer weather that will hopefully give you some inspiration and hope.

1. Mod Cloth Skirt

Corny names aside, this is ridiculously cute skirt that’s perfect for Spring.

2. UO Dress

I can always count on Urban Outfitters for the cutest clothes regardless of the season. There’s just something about their Spring collection that is even more amazing than usual. I highly recommend buying one or two things from there if you need some cute clothes for this season!

3. Wallet from LuLu’s

This super adorable bow wallet from LuLu’s is perfect for Spring! You can just carry it around wherever you go and manage to look extremely style while doing it. I highly recommend this one!

4. Sunglasses from the Loft

Really love how stylish these sunglasses are. Spring may not be exactly the right time, but it’s close enough to get into the warm weather spirit of it all.

5. Anthropologie Oxfords

Obsessed with these oxfords. I’ve always thought these shoes were adorable but these are especially attractive to me. This is perfect for the weather and it’s cheerful and screams Spring.

6. Topshop Sundress

This might be more appropriate for summer. But if there’s some really nice days or if you have a special event, this would be an adorable dress to wear. This is especially incredible for those of you going out of town for Spring break, maybe even taking a beach trip.

7. Charlotte Russe Top

The colors of this top have Spring written all over it. The crochet-back is lovely and pleasant. I love clothes from this store because of how the vibe is Spring and Summer.

8. Wet Seal Shirt

This basic floral print shirt is essential and weather appropriate. Wet Seal offers affordable and trendy clothes. You got to love the colors and patterns.

9. Old Navy Shorts

These shorts may be a little too early to break out. However, if you’re going to the beach for break, these are needed. The floral pattern is gorgeous and fun. Old Navy definitely has the cutest shorts.

10. H&M Shorts

Figured I’d include one more pair of shorts. These are very Summer like, but will work in Spring as well. High waist shorts are the best so we might as well start breaking them out before Summer officially begins.

Sarah Dessen Books and Teen Love

Sarah Dessen Wallpaper

Sarah Dessen is one of my favorite authors. I’m a little embarrassed to admit it. Not because her writing is bad or anything, but because it’s young adult romance books and sometimes it can be considered a guilty pleasure to admit that you totally love them. I’m not going to be ashamed to admit my love anymore. What I really want to say in this post is what these books have to say about teen lust and love and just relationships between teens in general.

“This Lullaby” is a book about Remy, a 18-year-old girl who’s father she never knew wrote a one hit wonder song dedicated to her that she still earns some money off of. She doesn’t believe in love due to watching her mom never really find love. Dexter is a musician she meets that has encountered the same experiences with his mom. Unlike Remy, he has the opposite belief and he is a hopeless romantic and his belief in love flips Remy upside down. What this book says about love is that sometimes it happens with your complete opposite. But you have to take the risk and let it just happen.

“The Truth About Forever,” Macy accepts chaos as she lets Wes into her life. This says a lot about just letting things happen. Note a theme? This Lullaby for the most part had the same theme. Most of the books have a main character who is either really serious, perfect, rejected, and some other similar characteristics. She’s the type of girl who needs reminded of her childlike qualities and being able to truly experience fun. “Along For The Ride” is about Auden, yet another girl who is serious about her studies and not much else. Her mom is a college professor and her dad is a writer. They split up when she was fairly young. In general, Auden was forced to mature at a young age. She never experienced a childhood and instead turned to focusing on her studies and being the best in her class. She spends the summer at the beach with her dad, his new wife, and their new baby daughter. Auden meets Eli who shows her another side to life, a fun side and with him, she experiences her childhood for the first time.

Sarah Dessen’s books are so special to me because they show a whole different side of teen romance. It’s definitely one I’ve personally never experienced. But I love how it takes me to a different place whenever I read them and it gives me a chance to dream. The books may not prepare you for the real world of teen dating, but they give you a chance to get away from reality for a little while. If you haven’t read any books by Sarah Dessen, you should definitely give it a chance.

Heartbreaking Summer Reads

If you’re looking for books that are guaranteed to break your heart and make you shed plenty of tears- look no further. Forget about the sad part, these are all incredible novels that book lovers should read. No, there’s no The Fault In Our Stars or My Sister’s Keeper on this list. These will be arranged in level of sadness.

Books that will pull on your heart strings:
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
download (8)
This book won’t make you cry but your heart will break. Eleanor is a redhead who is a little bit on the chubby side. Park is an Asian teen who is fairly popular but revels in the fact he doesn’t belong. The romance is so real because it doesn’t happen right away and the obstacles that keep them apart are different from anything you’ve ever read.

Tell The Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt
download
June Elbus is a 14 year old girl who finds her world turned upside down when she learns her Uncle Finn is dying of AIDS. June lives in New York in the 1980’s, a time when no one knew anything about the disease and assumed it was highly contagious. Another secret about June is that she is in love with this gay Uncle and is startled when his boyfriend reaches out to her. June and Toby soon bond over how much they loved Finn and too lonely souls take comfort in each other. This book is extremely different but it’s not gross, it tells a coming of age story many people never considered. Please read this, you won’t regret it.

Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech
download (1)
This is the first book I ever fell in love with. I read it in the third grade and my passion for reading became amplified by the new perspective this book gave me. Yes, it’s technically a children’s book but it makes you feel things the majority of adult books don’t touch on.

Books that will destroy your heart:
Farewell To Arms by Ernest Hemingway
download (9)
This book has so much hype and that makes you not to read it but it’s so much better than you think. After I read it, I just felt blank after reading it. Every aspect of it catches you off guard even if you already heard about the ending. It’s a book entirely withy the read.

Wintergirls by Lauire Halse Anderson
download (2)
Her book Speak is more popular but this one especially grasped my attention. It’s heartbreaking how the narrator has to survive despite the grief that she feels. The book is realistic because everything is gradual and everything leads back to the issue that holds her back.

Room by Emma Donahue
download (3)
This book is narrated by a five year old who only knows the life he lives in a small room with his mother. The reality is that he and his mother are being held captive but seeing it through the eyes of the child gives us a refreshing perspective of innocence while dealing with this heavy topic.

Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Piccoult
download (4)
The narrators jump around quite a bit but once everything settles down, the characters must come to terms with what happens next. This book deals with school shooting which is clearly a heartbreaking subject. Where it’s true sadness comes from is seeing through the eyes of Lacy, the shooters Mom who was a midwife. She must deal with the scrutiny the small town places on her.

Prepare for tears
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
download (5)
This book is narrated by a dog named Enzo who has a vast knowledge of all things racing due to his race car driver owner. The way Enzo phrasing the events that happen in his long life are hilarious and also sad. The love Enzo and Denny share is an accurate depiction of the relationship between a dog and his owner.

Every Last One by Anna Quindlen
download (6)
It’s better not to know anything about the plot before you read this so I’m a little antsy to even write this. However, it’s one of those books that needs to be shared. I hardly ever cry at books and I truthfully balled over this one.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
download (7)
The Kite Runner is obviously the most popular of his books but this one is one that I could read over and over again and still get the same feeling that I had the first time I read it. It shows the horrors women in Afghanistan were forced to endure over a span of thirty years. The storytelling is beautiful and the history is engaging. I couldn’t put this book down and read it in a day even though it’s rather lengthy.
